So.. weird issue.. only with auto-unlocker patched VMware Workstation files I run into this issue. Recreatable on command.

  • Ubuntu 20.04 LTS server guest
  • Any large file operation in the guest pushes host ntoskrnl.exe to spike/climb to 100% CPU and then entire host either freezes or I literally get an ACPI styled powerdown.

Large file operation ... meaning.. like extracting a 15 to 20GB tar inside the guest or copying same size over NFS from another guest or HGFS share from host, etc etc.

Uninstall autounlocker patch or reinstall/repair VMware Workstation.. problem goes away 🤷 ..

Host
Windows Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621
VMware Workstation 17.#
