Folding with foldmethod=syntax

Maybe I am missing something in my vimrc with the folding options, but I am unable to fold based on syntax in cmake files. Shouldn't this be possible with the plugin?

I am specifically thinking on if() else() endif()

Never tried folding in CMake. I assume that folding-expression need to be marked in the syntax-file for vim to do foldmethod=syntax.

Well, I checked how this should be done and it seems to be a bit more tricky, than I imagined. If you can give a helping hand I'll be appreciated.
