Opening an empty tab helpfully proposes a bunch of shortcuts to select the type file but I think it needs some tweaks to make it more focused on data analysis:

  • "Select a language" opens a long list of type files in alphabetical order. Most options in this list will not be relevant to a data analyst.
  • "Fill with template" is only about web tech
  • "Open a different editor" is what I was looking for but the prompt is confusing. It's unclear what a "different editor" is in this context.

This is also what you get from CMD+N

I feel like that keybinding could be much more useful to us. CMD+SHIFT+N to open a new R file in one click is very useful to me in RStudio and we don't currently have a great way to do this in one keystroke yet
