Cannot install using homebrew

While I can install other casks using homebrew, Karabiner-Elements consistently fails for me.
I'm using homebrew 4.4.16. Installation of Karabiner-Elements 15.3.0 and 15.2.0 fails.
Here's an example:

Error: Failure while executing; /usr/bin/sudo -u root -E LOGNAME=jerkington USER=jerkington USERNAME=jerkington -- /usr/sbin/installer -pkg /opt/homebrew/Caskroom/karabiner-elements/15.3.0/Karabiner-Elements.pkg -target / -verboseR exited with 1. Here's the output:
installer: Error - the package path specified was invalid: '/opt/homebrew/Caskroom/karabiner-elements/15.3.0/Karabiner-Elements.pkg'.
