Possible solutions suggested by @ankitnairr :

  1. If the user is able to access the grant through a deeplink, the "Apply" CTA should be disabled with a subtext stating that
    "You cannot apply to grants post deadline."

  2. The grants should not be discoverable on the homepage.

I think these are not alternates but required parts of one solution.
