What happened?

Description of the issue

Overleaf has an integration with Zotero which allows the import of Zotero references in one click such as presented in the following image :

The awaited behavior is to have the same citation key in Zotero as in the Bibtex file displayed in Overleaf. However, this is not the case, as displayed in the following screenshot :

Workaround

When using the "Export Library..." feature from Zotero, the right citation key is being exported as in :

The following file can then be imported in Overleaf manually. The result is the same than with the Overleaf Zotero integration, just with a few more clicks.

Some of the suggested workarounds would work but I believe that the citation key coming from an API request made by Overleaf should match the one when exporting .bib from Zotero; which is not the case.

I have no influence over what the API exports. If you pin the key, you can extract it from the extra field after getting the item from the API.

Once Zotero adds citation keys for all items, I can use that as storage for citation keys and then they'll show up on the API. But that's been said to come "real soon now" for years.
