Original suggestion: http://feedback.gitlab.com/forums/176466-general/suggestions/3649927-create-official-debian-packages
Repository: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/omnibus-gitlab

The GItLab core team has begun work on Debian and CentOS packages for GitLab. We should keep an eye on this and hope that we could leverage this.

@sbadia, @igalic: It looks like they made an announcement on this today. I am still in the process of reading it, but check it out.

Unfortunately, it does not look like it's going to be suitable for awhile.

We could start a separate branch for early adopters/guinea pigs…

Given that this is an omnibus package, it would obsolete a great deal of this puppet module.
All we'd be left with is platform support and configuration.

Maybe it would also reduce upgrade pains. Maybe.

Yep, indeed, all build dependency must be moved into system-distro dependencys. For info we are working (in the Debian ruby team) on the packaging of GitLab, but well integrated with the distro. http://people.debian.org/~boutil/gitlab/gitlab_deps20140401.pdf (wip :-))

PDF? Why?!

Because it's a .dot file auto-generated with gem2deps-gitlab https://gitorious.org/debian-diaspora/gemdeps

.dot can be easily converted to .svg or png!
