One workaround is to ask the AI, via Cody, to not embed code blocks, but instead just reference separate files for each such block. It will then properly format the separate pieces. Then I still have to copy-paste the pieces back into the main content, wrapping each piece with the embedded code block quoting. An annoying a waste of time...
