Thank you for this extension. Is there any possibility of supporting .ply file format (another widely format used for storing point clouds) in near future?

Hi!
As far as I know .ply files are already supported. I downloaded the 'apple.ply' example file from https://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/data/ply/ply.html and it looks like this:

It appears that the format is not mentioned in the README.md file, I'll create a pr fixing that.
