Even though CA "hangs-up", the call remains connected for maybe 10-15 seconds... #57

I just delivered a Call Attendant appliance to some friends for their land line. I tested the hardware and setup at my home first and extensively before delivery. But when I hooked it up at the friend's house, I noticed something that seemed strange (or at least very different) compared to my house... At my house, when CA hangs up in response to, for example, a blocking action = answer, the caller is terminated within 2-3 seconds time at the most. But at my friend's house, CA hangs up speedily (as seen in the log) but the call somehow remains active for 10-15 seconds every time. And I am trying to ascertain what may be causing this... One thing that jumps out at me is that at my home, all of our phones are simple, old-school extensions that wire into wall jacks while my friend's house uses a fancy, wireless phone base/extension system similar to (but not exactly since I do not yet know the brand/model) this. And I cannot help but wonder if that fancy phone system may have something to do with it. Another thing is that this phone shares the wire with the home's DSL connection. However, CA is attached to a DSL filter. So that seems ok. My phone line is VOIP over fiber but my friend's is just POTS as far as I can tell. Other than this delay, CA is working as expected. Never more than a single ring on blocked calls. Print out to the console log is speedy and not delayed in any way. So this is not a real problem and certainly NOT LIKELY a CA problem. I am just wondering if anyone else notices this. Thanks |

Someone over at the original forum suggested I look for other things connected to the phone line, like fax, alarm system, etc. It turns out there was actually an old handset with a built-in answering machine plugged in as an extension. When that was disconnected, the issue seems to resolve - not that it is a huge deal - just a mystery. |
