Reducing Latency with a cable

Rather than going through the network, could this be a connection between to 2 pc's directly? I understand it would limit the potential of controlling from anywhere, but I already have cable ran throughout the work location so it would be really simple to just plug in each pc into this box. The latency is low with network connectivity would this lower it even more so? Cable type also does not matter I have long enough ethernet and USB etc. I apologize if this is how it normally functions with ethernet cables on either end I am doing research before I purchase.
