Turn sbc not dependable on bash

Bash is widely present in UNIX-like system but it should not stop users being able to use sbc when it is not available. The sbc source code must be cleaned from bashisms (http://mywiki.wooledge.org/Bashism) for a more cosmopolitan approach.
