What is the feature that you would like to see in the app? Please describe.
I would like to see a "Live Transcript" feature in the video calling app that uses Twilio Voice Intelligence. This feature will automatically convert spoken words during the video call into text and display them on the screen in real-time, allowing participants to read what is being said as it happens. This would be especially beneficial for individuals with hearing impairments, those in noisy environments, or when understanding of different accents is challenging.

Yes, the request is tied to several challenges:

  • Accessibility Issues: Participants with hearing impairments might find it difficult to follow along during a video call without such a feature.
  • Environmental Challenges: In situations where participants are in a noisy environment or have a weak audio connection, having a transcript can ensure they do not miss any crucial information.
  • Language and Accent Barriers: Sometimes, participants might be speaking in accents unfamiliar to others on the call. Having a live transcript can help bridge this gap.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  • Integration with Third-Party Services: Instead of building the transcription service from scratch, the app could integrate with third-party transcription services that already offer real-time transcription. However, this might have privacy implications and could increase the cost for the user.
  • Post-Call Transcripts: Instead of real-time transcription, the app could offer a feature where the call is transcribed afterward, and participants can access the transcript later. This would be less effective as the users won't have real-time access to the information but could still be useful for record-keeping purposes.
  • Using External Hardware: Users could use an external device that listens to the call and provides real-time transcriptions. This might be cumbersome and is not as seamless as having the feature integrated within the app.
