I was trying to...

I needed using IS_OPTIONAL to sanitize an object based on it's validation metadata. However, I noticed that, even though #2044 has already been merged, there are releases that include this change.

The problem:

The last release was 7 months ago, and since then, several bumps and fixes have been included.

Feel free to make a release PR. I actually need someone else to do it since I can't merge my own PRs (every PR requires someone other than the author to approve it).
