Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I'm always frustrated when I need to manually scroll down the paper to the list of references, then to copy paste paper name into google, and finally I can understand what reference is cited.

Describe the solution you'd like

  1. A popup when hovering over refererences like [1] which give a preview of the paper.
  2. Link to that paper

In general, manipulating pdfs is very hard and I won't delve into it for the time being.

That being said, there was an earlier version of PaperMemory that DID include reference hovering for ArXiv Vanity (eg: https://www.arxiv-vanity.com/papers/2211.12020/)

It would not be too hard to bring that feature back and even include an "open on vanity" feature for arxiv papers.

One thing to be careful with would be: in order to favour publications over preprints, the deduplication algorithm will overwrite an arxiv reference with a venue reference and the "go to AV" functionality would break. A workaround would be to implement a safe-keeping of arxiv IDs in that case.

A lot of conditionals... :)
