In wxMaxima 23.05.1 using Maxima 5.47.0 on MS-Windows I can't get useful help using
?
or??
. This is true whether I set help to use html or the console. Any ideas how I can fix that?As far as I can tell, help doesn't pop up in my browser (FireFox) or appear in the wxMaxima GUI.
In the wxMaxima configuration panel, under Maxima, the help browser is set to autodetect and the unselected "User Specified" variant has the correct path to the browser. The path is in double quotes; it contains spaces. The maxima location is also set to autodetect and has the correct location (no spaces, and no quotes).
C:\Programs\maxima-5.47.0\share\maxima\5.47.0\doc\html
exists and has lots of .html files underneath.Selecting Help | Maxima Help from the toolbar opens
file:///C:/Programs/maxima-5.47.0/share/maxima/5.47.0/doc/html/maxima_singlepage.html
in the browser; I have not found it easy to locate the relevant sections in it by searching. I just noticed it has an index, and that does seem to work.Oddly, when I directly opened the
maxima.html
file and clicked on the index, I get a not found error (for file:///c:/programs/maxima-5.47.0/share/maxima/5.47.0/doc/html/Function-and-Variable-Index.html; in contrast the other index is at file:///C:/Programs/maxima-5.47.0/share/maxima/5.47.0/doc/html/maxima_singlepage.html#Function-and-Variable-Index).Thanks.
