type: enhancement
Improvement of existing functionality or minor addition
Please describe the enhancement you have in mind and explain what the current shortcomings are?
When publishing a model or pointcache the resulting product has no thumbnail. It would be nice if this could get some visual of the content automatically, similar to e.g. a workfile product (which gets a single frame viewport screenshot).
Some ideas:
enabling the default workfile thumbnail to also go to the other publishes is definitely possible and a simple step.
connecting a dedicated review (e.g. openGL ROP) to another publish instance(which could be a turntable) would be way more powerful and allow for any customization. - but more work. "Attaching reviewables" is a workflow that currently exists in the maya integration.
with 2) it wouldn't be far off potentially from supporting custom 'automatic previews' to be added to any model, like a turntable without requiring to have the OpenGL ROP setup (manually) in your scene for that. How much that is actually worth it depends on your workflow. A workfile template that has all that set up using technique 2) could do that as well. Anyway still interesting - and definitely sensible in some of the automations we're looking for.
How would you imagine the implementation of the enhancemenent?
