Using the quickstart guide’s beyond.corp TLD as an example, I would like to have members on <name>.beyond.corp, but I would also like to put one on beyond.corp itself.

Might be a while before I get to this, but, ACK. I've labeled it and I will let you know when it's completed. Root records seem appropriate for this case; doing it elegantly may require more out of Central though. We'll see.

for now, if you want to "hack it", you can use corp as your domain and use a hosts file with multi-level domains. It's not great but it will work.
