Robocup Wired Networking Guide
Hello dear Robocupper!! Your friendly neighborhood Gijssie here 👋
Today I will be teaching you how to configure your network during the Robocup Competition. Because of some rules and regulations by the governing body, no wireless is allowed during the event 😢. (Eventhough we still sometimes do 😉)
But I can fix this for you! Because I am Gijssie de Pijsie, je reddende engel in nood!!
If you are on Arch,( LOL!! ) Good luck figuring it out yourself, because I ain't looking it up. (Also Mac 🤡 )
If everyone was planned correctly, you should have an ethernet cable and a way to connect it to your laptop. Connect one end of the cable to the robot (or a switch if the robot is plugged into a switch) and the other end in your laptop.
To confirm Step 1 make sure that your operation system of choice shows a good connection, like:
If this did NOT go correctly it will look like this:
Try checking the cable and see if the robot is actually turned on (would be dumb if you forgot that 🤦 )
Go to the Network
section in your settings
Add an Ethernet Profile or figure out another way to manually set the settings for your wired connection.
Name the profile in the first tab:
Select in the IPv4
tab the Manual
option and fill in the filed like this:
- Address:
10.1.8.[Your Number]
and replace it with your number from the spreadsheet. Find your number here - Netmask:
255.255.0.0
- Gateway: empty (DONT FILL IN THE WORD EMPTY OR I WILL CUT YOU)
Then click the Add
button to confirm
Ping the robot with the following command:
ping 10.1.8.[ROBOT NUMBER]
You can find the robot number conveniently located on the top of its head.
If everything went correctly, pinging the robot should look like:
If it did not go correctly, it will look like this:
If anything else goes wrong during this proces feel free to ask me ANYTIME!! I am Gijssie and I will always help you out in need. That's all from your friendliest friend Gijssie. Groetjes!
