Remove comms tracking variables

These have been historically inaccurate it seems - in send cases
the header length is being duplicated on broadcast messages, and
on P2P messages the header is being added despite no header being
present.

As nothing is using these - and there's better ways to measure comms
bandwidth - will just nuke.
