Installation

Prerequisites

  • local admin rights to install the Interception driver
  • Windows 7 or higher.

Steps

  1. download the latest capsicain.zip here: https://github.com/cajhin/capsicain/releases
  2. extract to any folder you like. You can move it anytime; there are no registry entries for Capsicain.
  3. if it is not in the .zip file, get the Interception installer from here:
    https://github.com/oblitum/Interception
  4. open an Administrator dosbox (Start menu > type 'cmd' > right-click on Command prompt > select 'Run as administrator'
  5. navigate to the Interception installer folder (like cd "c:\my stuff\interception")
  6. install-interception /install
(note: you can uninstall with install-interception /uninstall)
  7. reboot
  8. start capsicain.exe

Test it

Out of the box, this will use the default capsicain.ini. That's my own ini, and it's quite complex.

  • press (for example) Alt+QWER for !@#$ or CapsLock+JKL for 'cursor left down right'
  • check that the traybar icon exists, or press ESC+T to move the app icon to the taskbar
  • To stop capsicain, press ESC+X

Continue with Basics

If you cannot minimize capsicain to the tray in Windows 11, or if you run into other problems, check
X doesn't work
