Johnny Chan - Project Portfolio

PROJECT: EduBuddy


Overview

EduBuddy is a desktop application designed for secondary school teachers to manage student information better. The user interacts with it using a CLI, and it has a GUI created with JavaFX and HTML. It is written in Java, and has about 10 kLoC.

Summary of contributions

  • Major enhancement: Add HTML student profile page to display student information

    • What it does: Allows the user to view updated student information with HTML page built into the Browser Panel.

    • Justification: This feature improves the product significantly as it allows the user to visualise the student information in a simple and effective way

    • Highlights: This implementation takes in all data from the commands and updates it real time. It uses its own storage method to create and delete user profiles. It incorporates all 4 aspects of the code, Logic (commands), model(User information), UI (Browser Panel), Storage(a separate storage method).

    • Credits: -

  • Minor enhancement: Added change theme command for Browser Panel. Allows user to view by dark or light mode.

  • Code contributed: [Functional code] [Test code]

  • Other contributions:

    • Project management: Worked with every release of EduBuddy.

    • Enhancements to existing features:

      • Added a different GUI color scheme to match with the EduBuddy UI.

      • Created a default page to introduce users to EduBuddy.

      • Created official EduBuddy logo.

      • Took out case sensitivity in command input.

    • Documentation:

      • Updated User Guide and cleaned up some areas from its original iteration

      • Updated developer guide and cleaned up areas from its original iteration (eg. Took out Appendix A)

    • Community:

      • Opened, closed, and verified some issues on the issue tracker.

      • Contributed to forum discussions

    • Tools:

      • Integrated Travis CI into the project.
