Ubuntu and Display Walls

So you want to make a wall display using a single machine running Ubuntu. I'll start by saying your mileage may vary. That being said, assuming you have enough video cards and a chassis to hold them, along with a beta nVidia driver, and a couple of modifications to your xorg.conf file (yes I know we all love messing with that...) you should be seeing one big desktop across all of your screens. Below, I provide some info on how we got that working ON MY HARDWARE (hence, your mileage may vary).

Hardware

For a single machine display wall, you need a chassis that can manage more than one (or several) video cards. Tyan makes a nice one, though I would suggest having an integrator (such as Penguin Computing ) make it for you. Our system is the Relion 4708a Server.

Driver

You will need a beta nVidia driver. We are using _____

Setup

Assuming you have installed the driver successfully, you should be able to use the nvidia-settings command to add and arrange your screens using Xinerama. Also make sure that you are using either relative or absolute positioning, NOT A MIX OF THE TWO This will seriously mess with things.
