Reconciling OMIA and VBO dog breed names #111
Comments
Further information on Kelpie-related breeds from @franknic is here: Kelpie breeds in VBO (Based on information obtained from Professor Claire Wade) In essence, there are two breeds, both of which are recognised in more than one country:
In essence, there are two breeds, both of which are recognised in more than one country: Australian Kelpie FCI 293: https://www.fci.be/Nomenclature/Standards/293g01-en.pdf https://www.ukcdogs.com/australian-kelpie https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/australian-kelpie/ https://www.ckc.ca/en/Choosing-a-Dog/Choosing-a-Breed/Herding-Dogs/Australian-Kelpie Working Kelpie https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/working-kelpie/ The reality is that the word “Kelpie” is used in practice as a synonym for both of the above breeds. We are aware that it may not be possible to have the same synonym for more than one breed in VBO. How to translate the existing five VBO Kelpie entries to reflect the above reality?

@franknic Thank you for the Kelpie information. One question - for the DAD-IS national breed: Kelpie, Australia (Dog), VBO:0007998, a synonym listed on DAD-IS is Australian Working Kelpie. Does this mean that the national breed should actually be called "Working Kelpie, Australia (Dog)", VBO:0007998? (i.e. does the DAD-IS breed refer to the working kelpie?) |
Thank you very much, Katie, for uploading all this information. As you can see, it is not straightforward! |
For the moment, we will leave the DADIS-origin breed as is. @franknic and @ImkeTammen will confer with experts regarding the decision of whether or not the DADIS breed should be split into "Australian Kelpie, Australia" and "Working Kelpie, Australia". |
@franknic Please use this updated dog breed spreadsheet to reconcile OMIA and VBO IDs: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t23p7TKd-fmL7mmnwVlPncnG4xiqysABRcBsjoaNA84/edit#gid=0 You will find the OMIA ID's in column "CN". Please let me know if you have questions or comments! |
Thank you very much, Katie |
While building the dog breed branch of VBO, several breeds were noted to have OMIA has the sole source of breed name. @franknic has reviewed those concepts.
He has made comments on which concepts should be merged and which terms are candidates for obsoletion due to "domain entity does not exist."
See google sheet for detailed descriptions.
