When Movable Type synchronizes user and group profile data, it conducts a search against the LDAP directory and extracts the values associated with specific user profile attributes and maps them into the Movable Type schema. Because LDAP schemas can vary from installation to installation, this configuration directive is used to identify the name of the attribute in LDAP that contains the group ID that the user belongs to. That value is then mapping into the corresponding column in Movable Type's data model.
