Rules Overview
Planetary is committed to:
- Create a social network with less abuse and harassment by design
- Minimize centralized data collection and respect our user’s privacy
- Build ways for content creators to charge for their work on their own terms
- Be a part of a true public space that isn’t owned or controlled by any one corporation
- You own your identity, content, & relationships so you can move to another service if you don’t like ours
Part of creating a social network with less abuse and harassment by design—and one that respects privacy and content creators—is having clear rules about what is acceptable on the platform.
Among other things, which we list below, we do not tolerate abusive users or the posting of violent, illegal, hateful or other content that breaks our rules. Users that are abusive will be blocked from using the Planetary application and their content will not be visible to other Planetary users. Content that breaks our guidelines will be removed from our applications and servers and will not be visible to people using the Planetary service.
Some of our rules are a matter of law, some are a matter of what’s acceptable on various phone platforms, and some of our rules are a matter of judgment.
This is where our other commitments come in: to be part of a truly open public space and that you should own—and be able to move—your identity. Since Planetary is part of an open, distributed social network built upon ‘Secure Scuttlebutt’, if you do not agree with our judgment or rules, you are free at any time to take your identity and relationships to another service that may enforce different standards.
As always, it’s important to remind people that Planetary works as part of a Distributed Social Network that runs on top of the ‘Secure Scuttlebutt’ technology. This means that other people can build apps to interact with your content and that your content may be copied to other people’s servers. In this way, Planetary works a bit like an e-mail application or a web browser that can see content created in other places and stored on other servers, than it does a traditional social network.
On your behalf we can block people from contacting you and you can hide or delete content you do not like. We can also remove negative content from any server that we run, hide that content from anyone using the Planetary application and ban certain users from using or being visible in our app. But we cannot stop banned people from using other applications to post on the Internet, we cannot stop people elsewhere keeping objectionable content on their servers, and we cannot stop other people consuming it on their applications.
