This is a very small patch fixing the following bug

  • When Cyndaquil's Fire Blast was used it could sometimes do 5 Burn (its minimum) instead of the actual value

Since the fall semester is done, please look forward to more than just this small bug fix ;)

Bug Fixes

  • Card Names used toLowerCase() to find the right beta art. This used implicitly the java Default Locale which can do stuff like mapping I to ı instead of i. This is now fixed by explicitly using a Locale

Happy 1 year anniversary everyone. 🎂

Since our release last year, we have updated this mod following your feedback. After a break because of school we started working on 4 new characters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile and Meowth.

And we are glad to announce that they are ready for you to play.

Here is list of all the changes

OVERALL CHANGES

RATING SYSTEM

We added the rating system to guide player toward which Pokémon is the easiest to learn if this is your first playthrough. These rating only came from a small sample of the player base as well as the win rate ratio from our stats. Please give us your opinion so we can update it. This is shown as a number next to the Pokémon name going from 0.5 to 2.5. Adding the complexity from the two Pokémon you chose should give you a rating out of 5 that we believe give a good idea of expected complexity

CARD ART CHANGES

Some card art from the first genenration starters was unsatisfactory or had it's name changed: for those reasons we updated the art for those cards.

COMPATIBILITY WITH SPIRE WITH FRIENDS.

In Mystery Dungeon, you venture forth in deep dungeons and save others with the help of your friends. This time go up the spire with them or have a friendly rivalry match between you.

LOCALIZATION

We have made a big effort to make the translation process approchable by everyone. We launched a community based project to make it easier for people to translate to every language supported by Slay the Spire. There was also a community member that reached out to us for the Korean translation that wouldn't have been doable without them. Thanks 거거북이#5455 . The French translation should also be up to date. We now have

  • English
  • French
  • Korean
  • Chinese (simplified) (50% completed)

We look forward to other community translations!

Bug fixes

We spent some time fixing some of the bugs that have been tough to deal with. A full list can be found on the GitHub Issues page . Some that we are really glad are fixed are

  • Save now works as expected (except for the shinyness that is sometimes lost or gained)
  • The Charge-Meter now scales to any resolution.

Now the main dish:

4 NEW CHARACTERS: 81 COMBINATIONS

The big feature for this update is the 4 new characters, but they don't come alone. We also added 8 character based relics and potions. All of them have their own set of cards but do to the move pool of each starter being very similar, we had to reuse names. Also all same type Pokémon cannot be teamed up together to make sure you don't end up with different cards with the same name. Also, same type characters share some mechanics therefore mono-type teams wouldn't feel right.

Chikorita

  • WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER

Chikorita has a lot of way to deal self damage but don't worry healing itself is as easy.
Under 70% of your max hp, you gain the Recovery power allowing you yo heal 30% of the damage you deal per hit.

  • DRAW DRAW DRAW

Because you need attacks to heal yourself we gave Chikorita some draw tools to help you mitigate these bad turns.

  • HIT THEM BACK FOR DOUBLE

Compared to Bulbasaur, Chikorita has more big hit and more ways to scale it's strength.

Cyndaquil

  • BOOM? YES CYNDAQUIL BOOM

While burn is a nice defensive tool, what if it was an offensive one?
Deal massive damage with the new eruption mechanic converting burn stacks into raw damage.

  • PREPARATION IS KEY

to help you have those massive turns easily, Cyndaquil has a multitude of tools to generate energy and a lot of retain cards.

  • WHEN YOU PLAY WITH FIRE

Having burn as his main mechanic, Cyndaquil also plays with statuses and compared to Squirtle's Freezes, Cyndaquil's Burn don't clog your hand.
Managing them will be key to victory.

Totodile

  • BRAWN OVER BRAIN

Compared to Squirtle's temporary strength, Totodile uses Vigor to deal heavy blows to its enemies. Vigor increases your next attack damage by its amount.
But single target, single hit attacks don't make all allowing his partners to shine

  • NO NEED FOR THOSE

If cards aren't in your hands why care? Do they even exist? Totodile discards cards from the top of his deck to activate powerful effects and accelerate his shuffle. Because of that some cards were designed to be discarded.

  • ICE COLD

Orbs.
You know them from Pikachu and they're back. But this time to give block.
Totodile doesn't have time to play defenses. So he relies on his frost orbs to help out.

Meowth

  • MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND

With Chikorita we made health a ressource.
With Totodile we made your deck a ressource.
With Meowth gold is a ressource.
Spend gold in combat to play cards with powerful effects.
Or gain some at the risk of taking damage.
Gold is your life blood.

  • IT'S ALWAYS BETTER WHEN FREE

When cards already cost you gold, why make you pay twice?
Meowth's most cards cost 0 energy.
And some remove the gold costs.

  • GAMBLING WITH YOUR LIFE

Monsters want your death, but what if you bribed them?
Meowth is a coward that gives strength and block to it's enemies.
But it's when they let they're guard down that you strike.

We hope that you will like this update because we are already thinking about what's coming next and we will release a community poll in the coming weeks about what we should try next!

Korean up to date + Code Refactor + Some Art
