+1881 veröffentlichte Charles E. Pratt unter den Pseudonymen H. J. Fuller und J. T. Wood Noten für '' Bring Back My Bonnie to Me''. Theodore Raph schreibt in seinem 1964 erschienenen Buch American Song Treasury: 100 Favorites, dass das Lied in den 1870er Jahren in den Notenläden nachgefragt wurde und Pratt davon überzeugt werden konnte, eine Version des Liedes unter Pseudonymen zu veröffentlichen. Das Lied wurde ein großer Hit, besonders beliebt bei Gesangsgruppen an Colleges, aber auch bei allen anderen Gesangsgruppen.
