Server Indicator Lights

2019 status: Obsolete (this was specific to the Intel Edison, which is no longer used)

Each server unit has five lights: white, red, amber, green, and blue.

They have the following meanings:

  • White (bright flash): Reboot
  • Green: Up and fully functioning
  • Yellow: Busy
  • Red: USB stick

Behaviours

Reboot

Nothing for ~20 seconds; then white LED flashes; yellow LED steady on for about 5 minutes as the OpenMRS server comes up; then solid green to indicate the server is fully functioning.

Normal operation

Green LED steady on. Once per minute, switches briefly to yellow (self-check) and back to green (self-check successful).

Software update or reconfiguration via USB stick

Within ~20 seconds after inserting USB stick, red LED comes on; a few seconds later, yellow LED also comes on as the update is being installed or the reconfiguration is being applied. When installation or reconfiguration is finished, red and yellow turn off.

If reconfiguration requires a reboot, yellow stays on and server continues with the reboot sequence (see above). Otherwise, green comes back on.
