Places to eat dinner in Colorado Springs. These all South of the college and centered around Tejon St. They go in order of increasing distance from campus. I've missed some, but this list will be long enough. If it says, "small space" they will have troubles accommodating more than 1-2 groups of 4-5 and could not seat said groups together.

For a sense of distance, La'au's and Wooglin's are within one block of the south edge of campus and MacKenzie's Chop house is 1 mile from the south edge of campus.

The first 4 are popular with campus folks for lunch, but all serve dinner also.

  • La'au's --- fancy tacos and related food. A plate of 4 tacos is $5.95 - $8.00 (shrimp). (Address is 830 Tejon), but it is on the back side of the building.
  • Wooglin's Deli --- Sandwiches and related food. Most Sandwiches, etc. are $7-8. Coffee and a couple of good beers on tap.
  • Dale Street Cafe (Dale east of Tejon ) --- American cafe food. Good, but service is crazy slow.
  • Panino's --- pizza sandwiches. Not my favorite, but I have colleagues that love this place for lunch. All are about $6-9.
  • Rasta Pasta --- Chain. New-ish. Basic pasta.
  • Poor Richards & Rico's Cafe --- You can order off of all the menus in either location. Good thin pizza, salads, cafe food --- has some interesting apetizers/tapas. The cafe has a nice atmosphere and some good moderately priced wines. Small spaces.
  • Tony's --- Dive bar. I would not eat here (but have), but if you want cheap (IMO bad) beer and fried food, this is the place to go.
  • Crepes Francaise --- Crepes. I've been told not to eat here --- but it seems that a chef I like is now working there, so it could be interesting.
  • Jose Muldoon's --- Mexican. This is a chain in Colorado. We enjoy it for what it is. Most dishes are $8-15.
  • Paris Crepe Euro Cafe --- Very good, interesting crepes. Inexpensive, $4-6. No alcohol. Small space.
  • La Creperie --- Typical tourist crepe trap. I'm told (by friend who is the food critic in town) that with this in mind, this is "o.k."
  • Everest Nepal (Bijou west of Tejon) --- I've never eaten here and don't know anyone who has.
  • Old Chicago --- Just what you think it is.
  • Bistro de Pinto (Kiowa west of Tejon) --- Mexican Fusion. $15-ish. I like it better than Sonterra Grill, but seems a little overpriced. Small space.
  • Sushi (Kiowa west of Tejon, yellow design in windows) --- I can't remember the name of this Sushi restaurant. I've really enjoyed it every time I've gone --- last time was about 6 months ago. Standard Sushi prices. Small space.
  • The Metropolitan (address is on Tejon, but you need to go East on Kiowa to the subway station entrance) --- Good cocktails and food, American, a bit fancy. On the pricier end. I haven't been in a while, not sure why.
  • Famous Steak House --- I'm told the steaks are good. For the price, my partner prefers MacKenzie's for both food and atmosphere.
  • Ritz Grill --- I don't know anyone who eats here. MacKenzie's and the Famous are both much better for the price.
  • El Tesoro --- New Mexico Mexican. Some consider this to be one of the better Mexican restaurants in town. Prices are moderate, I can't remember off the top of my head say $10-15.
  • Phantom Canyon Brewing Co (Pike's Peak, 1 block west of Tejon) --- Beer is good, but not the best in town (see Bristol, much further south for better beer). But, the food IS good. Some of the best when it comes to brewery's. This is a staple for me and many of my friends in town. Dinners run $9-20 (burgers to fancy). Note that the burger is not listed on the dinner menu, but are always available.
  • The Melting Pot (Pike's Peak, west of Tejon) --- Fondue. Pricey. I've not eaten here, but it seems popular in town.
  • Sonterra Grill --- Mexican fusion. Good, but in my opinion, over priced.
  • Il Vicino --- Wood fired pizza's and a couple of good beers on tap. This is a staple restaurant for us. $6-10 for a pizza that is plenty big to feed one person.
  • Chipotle --- Just what you think it is.
  • Jack Quinn --- Irish Pub. Good beer. I like the burgers and some of the appetizers. I'm sure the other food is good too.
  • Saigon Cafe (Colorado, west of Tejon) --- Vietnamese. The department eats lunch there regularly and I like it for that. Typical prices for such a restaurant.
  • Warehouse Restaurant (Cimmaron, several blocks west of Tejon)
  • Nosh --- Tapas restaurant. A little hit or miss. Sometimes I love everything on the menu, sometimes I'm only excited about 2 or 3 things. I just checked it out and it is looking interesting. Good wine list and cocktails and usually has a good beer or two on tap. $4-23 (they have 2 sizes for most dishes and thus the huge range).
  • MacKenzie's Chop House --- Dinner is pricey, but worth it. I've loved everything I've had here. Good cocktails and wine list as well. $25-$35 for main dishes.
  • Shuga's (Rio Grande, 1 block west of Tejon, 1.5 miles from campus) --- Great little cafe. Most in town call it the "place to take a date." If you aren't looking for tons of food, we really enjoy it. This is another place we eat regularly. Sandwiches and soups and good cocktails. $7-10 on food, drinks are more. Small Space.
  • Blue Star & Bristol Brewing (2.5 miles from campus) --- I included these because the brewery has good beer, some of the best in town. Little food, though. They do sell La'au's tacos (same owners). The restaurant next door is the Blue Star (marked by a big blue neon star at the door). It is one of our favorites in town. They have a "bar" side and a "dining" side. The menus are close to the same and I STONGLY recommend the "bar" side for the atmosphere (we never eat on the dining side --- too stuffy and you can't get the burger). Tapas are usually $6-10, "bar" entrees are $11-18, "dining" entrees are $20-$30. Great beer and wine selection. Plenty of seating, but can't accommodate a big group on the "bar" side and would need a reservation for the "dining" side.
